Our World Has Changed . . . Have you? Have I?

I remember an old black & white movie called ´The Wages of Fear.´ Some men in Venezuela were transporting hair-trigger liquid explosives in jerrycans, using huge trucks that crawled over cratered, rocky, mountainous roads.
Fear gripped everyone in the movie - as well as those watching.

9/11 has spawned more than its share of fear-mongers. The prophets of paranoia - both Christian and other - are having their heyday, predicting all kinds of dire events to come. Something happens, rumors fly, fear grips our world, and many decisions that we make are being based on that powerful but negative emotion.

Fear does NOT come from God. God is love and there is no fear in love. But the truth is, we all get seared by fear at times. We must recognize fear´s source, its paralyzing nature and what it does to us; and then let´s remember - like David - that . . .
"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread?" (Ps 27:1) . . .

. . . and "I will say to the Lord, ´My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust . . . (I) will not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day; of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.´"

. . . then, if we claim just that, knowing full well that our fight IS NOT against human beings, but against the spiritual forces of darkness, then who can hurt us?

Terrorists´ main aim is NOT just to kill people and destroy installations.
This is only secondary. The main goal of terrorism is to instill fear in the living. The concept of unleashing fear upon thousands and millions all at once, is perhaps their most important tactic. Their intention is to make us afraid of life, afraid of the future, afraid to trust. Simply to be
paralyzed by fear.

Is our confidence in the Lord, the Light of our salvation? Or is our confidence in those who seek to sow fear, or even in those who seek to reap profit from our anxieties? (Remember Y2K and all the fears that were flying around in 1999?)

Let´s take an eternal perspective. This ´home´ is temporary - our real home lies ahead. Life will never get back to pre-9/11 ´normal.´ We must create a new ´normal,´ a normal life in which we are certainly more alert, but in which we seek God about EVERY part of our lives.

The strong word the Lord has been giving to Donna - for several years now - has been to ONLY live and teach on how to LISTEN TO GOD and obey what He says. This has become her life, and it rubs off on others! God wants each of us to enjoy peace and security when all around us is mayhem, insecurity and fear. Listening and obeying lead right into intimacy with the Father, and what safer place to be than following closely with Him?

Let´s be sure to get back to the new ´normal´way of living - with NO FEAR!

Many Blessings,

Peter Jordan
