                      The Life of Faith

Most believers seem to think that what is meant to really, really live by faith, one must forego a regular means of income and trust that God will put food on the table. Baloney. (Salary or not—that’s just a small part of the life of faith.)

All true believers live by faith. There is no other way. Upon receiving Christ into our lives, we automatically enter into a life of faith; we accept that we are redeemed by His death and resurrection; our sins are forgiven, we’re free from their clutches—or can be—and we have eternal life now and assurance that our final home is heaven.

If you are a believer, you are living by faith.

So, a life of faith is not just for those who are ‘called’ to foreign ‘fields’ or ‘anointed and appointed’ to fulltime ministry at home. We’re all in this together.

But you might say, “To live by faith means I must renounce a regular income, relying totally on the goodness and generosity of others.” Not so! That may be one facet in the whole scope of faith-life, but it’s by no means all of it.

JoEllyn Wright, a YWAMer who is a minstrel-worshipper-songwriter, and who is mostly hidden, has made a CD in which a song of faith is included. The album is barely available anymore, but you may listen to her song about Faith. Just click here!

Here are the words to follow along with as you listen to her musical interpretation of that which is part and parcel of every Believer:

Faith
By JoEllyn Wright
From her CD album “The Journey”

Faith is the substance of what you can’t see
Faith is the birthplace of your destiny
Watching and waiting for what is to be
Faith is the victory

So if you feel helpless and out of control
You’re right where He wants you to be
Walking by faith, learning to wait
In total dependency

Faith is the fight that will finish the race
Faith must be birthed in the most barren place
Faith takes His promise while trusting His grace
Faith is a frightening place

So if you feel helpless and out of control
It means you’re in good company
Children of Abraham, born of his seed
Part of the great family

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey

Last stanza: John H. Sammis and Daniel B. Towner
(Public Domain)

There’s no other way! Donna—and our children—have proven this over more than 40 years. Yes, faith can be a frightening place when doubts creep in and the outlook is bleak and even hope starts to fade. There will be times of testing, but they are really just opportunities to trust God and His loving care for us his children.

‘Trust and obey’ is not just for Christian superheroes. It’s for all of us.knight_with_shield.png

Faith shields us from the onslaughts that are all around us these days—as long as we hold up the shield . . . and wear all the protection that goes with it, and which we need for a victorious life. [Read Eph 6:10-17]

Many Blessings,

A Worshipping Warrior Passes

Tuani.png

In 1982, a group of Pacific Islanders known as Island Breeze joined our then pioneering YWAM Kona base. They brought a dimension of the joy of the Lord that the rest of us had not known, and quickly won our hearts. They continue in Kona—as well as having established bases in several other locations around the world. Teams are constantly on outreach.

On January 17th while on outreach in Harbin, China, Tuani Tuani, leader and great warrior, experienced a massive heart attack, passing straight into the presence of the Lord.

Tuani is mourned by his family, in addition to a worldwide host of others who have been touched by his life.

Dear Friend,

When I asked the Lord what He wanted me to write about this month, I sensed Him saying, ETERNITY.

At the beginning of year 2000, the start of the new millennium, the word “Eternity" in lights was splashed across the great Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia. Do you remember seeing it? What prompted the display was that a veteran and alcoholic named Arthur Stace became a Christian and started to chalk ‘Eternity’ on the sidewalks of Sydney 50 times a day for 35 years non-stop. I sensed back then that God wanted us to focus on eternity and what that means.

As you have seen (above), our Samoan ‘son’ Tuani Tuani went home to be with Jesus unexpectedly in January. We have such hope, because we knew he loved Jesus and believed in Him, and now he will even know Him better; and we will see Tuani again. He was—and still is—a worshipping warrior.

God has put eternity in the human heart. [Eccl 3:11] We either have eternal life or eternal punishment, which is eternal separation from God. [Matt.25:46]

"Now this is eternal life that they may know you the only true (supreme and sovereign) God and (in the same manner) know Jesus (as the) Christ whom You have sent.” [Amp John 17:3]

Life is a journey to get to know Him and to love Him for who He is. All Jesus asked us to do was to love God and love others and believe in Jesus, as the Son of God.

Jesus gives us eternal life. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[a]; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” [John 10:27-29]

How do we live life with an eternal perspective in our minds? Those who walk in obedience to God out of love for Him will inherit eternal life. [see Matt 19:28-29] "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." [Deut 33:27] . . . His Kingdom is an eternal Kingdom. [Daniel 4:3)

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." [Rom 6:23] “ . . . keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” [Jude 1:21]

“My friends whatever you do, do it as unto Him. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” [1 Cor 3:10-15]

My heart is that when Jesus sees each one of us in Heaven, He will say, “Well done good and faithful servant.” [Matt 25:21]Donna_photo_for_eTouch_1.2.png

Ponder on eternal life and read what the Word says.

Love and Blessings,

and_finally_draft_16_blue_resize_.png                            The Assemblies

The church is not a building. It is the sum total of all of us who believe in, and submit our lives to Jesus Christ. Sadly, we are a fractious bunch, dividing ourselves into multiplied and varied groupings, which we call ‘denominations.’ We have trouble getting along with each other, with differing interpretations of the Scriptures.

But today we are not going to be negative. We’re going to have a little fun.

Both Donna and I were born and brought up in ‘The Assemblies’—we did not belong to a ‘church’ because that word was never used. It was a ‘Meeting’ that we attended (three times on Sunday), and we met not in a church, but in a ‘Hall,’ often called a Gospel Hall.

The movement began in the early part of the 18th Century in Ireland and emphasized the authority of all Scripture, eventually becoming known as ‘The Plymouth Brethren’. Early members included John Nelson Darby, Anthony Groves, George Müller, and others. There were no ministers, only elders, who directed the order of things at the meetings.

Loren and Darlene Cunningham both grew up as the children of ministers in The ‘Assemblies of God,’ a quite different type of faith community than ours(!) It grew out of the Pentecostal revival early in the 20th Century. There was little contact between the two denominations, except at events such as the Billy Graham crusades.

Not long after we joined YWAM, I became Loren’s assistant and was given the responsibility of providing a ‘maintaining’ leadership of the Kona base when he was away on one of his frequent worldwide ministry trips. As you can imagine, it was a privilege and an honor to serve a man who himself is a servant-leader.

Because I got to spend so much ‘office’ time with Loren when he was home, I would sometimes be invited to his home when he had visitors. Invariably when introducing me, he would say, “This is my assistant Peter Jordan, who is also with the Assemblies.”

It was our little joke.

Till next time,
